My experience as a Piezo Parts intern
Piezo Parts Co. Ltd. specializes in the manufacturing of quality quartz monitor crystals for thin film deposition and QCMs (Quartz Crystal Microbalance) for research of new biosensors, gas sensors and more. Piezo Parts holds offices in Japan and Taiwan with clients from all over Asia.
During my time here, I was a marketing/business development intern for Piezo Parts’ business expansion in the United States. As an undergraduate student in Information Technology & Systems with a zest to learn about business practices in East Asia, I was excited to broaden my skill set and scope of learning in a new cultural setting.
Being an intern at Piezo Parts has enabled me a full immersion into Japanese business culture and a company lifestyle based on respect and consideration for others. As a marketing intern I was able to produce tangible deliverables, such as marketing material that was used at our exhibition at TADF in Fukuoka, Japan. I was also able to travel and learn about promoting B2B products at tradeshows across Japan.
The entire experience was overwhelming and enriching at the same time, I was thrown challenges such as communication and technological barriers. However it also ignited a desire for me to challenge myself more, by starting to learn the Japanese language. I feel that with the globalization of business, this opportunity has enabled me to move a step further in my goal of becoming more acclimatized to international business.
I was positioned in our head sales office in Japan, which enabled me to learn about the importance of being customer oriented and sales techniques in Japan. I was also able to learn about the strict quality control standards in place for manufacturing, especially at Piezo Parts.
My entire experience was amazing and I have to thank my mentors, Professor Zydorek, Carmen and Steve at GDI that prepared me beforehand. I also want to thank Piezo Parts CEO, Mr. Hayakawa for providing me this opportunity and guiding me during my stay in Japan. Also special thanks to my wonderful coworkers Ms. Mimi, Mr. Tominaga, Mr. Kaminaga and Mr. Terazono that gave me positive support and guidance.
As I approach graduation with only a year left of my undergraduate program at The University of Texas at Dallas, I am positive that the knowledge I’ve attained in my degree, as well as this internship will enable me to pursue my career goals ahead.
